It is possible to automatically hide messages from the In-Game Chat System containing specific terms and/or phrases by setting up filters.
In order to do so, first Select the Channel you wish to Filter Messages in. (For this example we have Selected Local as the Active Channel. The filter window will affect the Actively selected Channel.)
Then navigate to the Chat Window Menu, the three dots on the top-right. Alternatively, you may Right Click the Channel you wish to Edit to reach the same menu:
From the subsequent drop-down Menu, select Configure Hidden Messages. (please note that Configure Hidden Messages is a different function entirely from the Word-Filters and Highlights function at the bottom of the menu)
This will open the Filter Window which displays the Channel you have selected at the Top. If you wish to hide messages from a specific channel then you may use the Tickbox below it to activate the 'Channel Specific List' of words and terms which will be hidden only in that specific channel, such as Jita.
For specific Channels, such as Corporation, Alliance, you will always edit the filter for that particular channel. As mentioned above, make sure to select the channel you wish to edit as your active channel before selecting Configure Hidden Messages. For Custom Player Channels, you can select 'All Custom Player Channels' or again, use Channel Specific options if you wish to filter terms only from one specific player channel.
The terms you may filter out can be single words or even website URLs. For example, words like 'Skillpoints', 'Plex', or 'Eveonline.com' can be filtered. Similarly, you may set it up to filter insults or slurs in order to redact these automatically from the chat channels. Please note that each term is separated by a single comma, without spaces.
This filter-system also provides the option to redact Contracts, Hypernet Offers etc. Again, each term must be separated by just a Comma ( '','' without Spaces between each term)
Below are a few common terms which you can add to your Specific List: Jita Local to hide most of the common repeated messages:
- url=recruitmentAd, (this will hide Corporate Recruitment Adverts, but not Corporations being linked in chat)
- url=hypernet, (this hides Hypernet Offer hyperlinks, if you wish to filter mentions of the hypernet, then add 'Hypernet' as a term to filter as well)
- url=contract, (this hides Contract hyperlinks)
- url=helpPointer, (this hides the help function pointing out certain UI Functions, such as undock or how to find the Hypernet)
- url=joinChannel, (this hides any Chat Channels linked through Chat)
- signup?, (this hides players linking their 'Recruit a Friend' link, among other links that include a sign-up in the url)
- url=bookmarkFolder, (this hides players linking a bookmark folder)
- url=shipSkinDesign, (this hides players linking to a Paragon Hub SKINR design)
- url=shipSkinListing, (this hides players linking to a Paragon Hub SKINR sale listing)
Each of the selected terms, separated by a comma (no space) Should look like this:
Advanced:
In order to find out what a certain link in a given message refers to, you may right-click the message you wish to filter, and select Copy. Pasting it into your Notepad app (out-of-game) will show the message fully written out as:
[CharacterName] > <url=[specific type]</url>
This gives you the term 'url=[specific type]' which you may add to your list.
This would let you filter for specific items, characters, corporations, or even specific player channels you do not wish to see in your Chat Channels, as you can add the specific 'joinChannel:-[ChannelID] to the filter list for example without filtering out all other player chat channels being linked to you.
