Downtime

What is Downtime?

The EVE Online server is is temporarily taken offline and then rebooted each day at 11:00 EVE Time (UTC). This is what CCP and EVE Players refer to as "Downtime".

During Downtime the main server, Tranquility, is unavailable and cannot be connected to. In other words, during Downtime you will not be able to launch or interact with EVE Online.

Fortunately, Downtime typically lasts only a few minutes and connections are allowed again as soon as possible. If you are unable to connect due to Downtime, try waiting just a few minutes before trying again.

Why does EVE have a Downtime?

CCP uses each daily Downtime to publish expansions, issues hotfixes, or apply patches to EVE Online. Because of this, Downtime is an essential part of the daily EVE experience as it ensures there is enough time for essential maintenance to be performed.

Where to Find Downtime Notifications

If a daily Downtime requires more time to complete than usual, CCP will announce this on the EVE Launcher and in the Announcements section of the Official EVE Forums. Keep an eye on these locations for the latest updates regarding extended Downtimes.
