Audio issues

By following the steps outlined below, you should be able to identify and resolve most audio issues in EVE Online.

1. Check Audio Settings in the Game:

  • Open the EVE Online client.
  • Press ESC to open the settings menu.
  • Navigate to the Audio tab.
  • Ensure that the audio is enabled and the volume sliders are set appropriately.
  • Try disabling and enabling the audio.

2. Verify System Audio Settings:

  • Ensure that your system audio is not muted and the volume is up.
  • Ensure the correct playback device is selected.
    • Windows: Right-click the Speaker icon in the system tray.
    • Mac: Open the Apple menu > System Settings, then click Sound in the sidebar.

3. Update Audio Drivers:

  • Go to your computer’s Device Manager.
  • Locate the audio drivers under Sound, video, and game controllers.
  • Right-click on the audio driver and select Update driver.
  • Alternatively, visit the manufacturer’s website to download the latest drivers.

4. Check for OS updates:

  • Ensure that your operating system is up to date, as updates can include important fixes.
    • Windows: Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and then select Check for updates. If updates are available, install them.
    • Mac: Open the Apple menu > System Settings, click General in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down), then click Software Update on the right.

5. Run EVE Online as Administrator:

  • Right-click the EVE Online shortcut or executable file.
  • Select Run as administrator.

6. Verify Game Files:

  • Open the EVE Online launcher.
  • Click on the Cogwheel icon in the top right corner.
  • Select Tools / Cache on the left and click Verify Game Files.
    • This will check for any corrupted files and repair them.

7. Check for Conflicting Programs:

  • Some programs may conflict with EVE Online's audio.
  • Temporarily disable or close background applications, especially those related to audio, like communication apps (Discord, Skype) or audio management software.

8. Reinstall the Game:

  • As a last resort, you can try uninstalling and then reinstalling EVE Online. Ensure EVE Online is closed before following the instructions below.
    • Don't worry, your client settings will not be wiped by this operation.
  • Windows: Select StartSettings > Apps > Apps & features.
    • Select the app you want to remove, and then select Uninstall.
  • Mac: Open the Finder > Applications and locate eve-online.
    • Drag eve-online to the trash and empty it.
  • Download the latest version of EVE Online and reinstall.

9. Check for hardware issues:

  • Sometimes the issue might be hardware-related. Try using a different pair of headphones or speakers to see if the problem persists.
