To help you resolve audio issues, we’ve compiled a list of steps that should address most common issues. Please follow the instructions below.
Check for Known Issues
Sometimes, audio issues may be part of a broader problem affecting multiple players. Check the following:
- Look for recent posts regarding your issue in Announcements.
- Check for server-wide issues or maintenance on the EVE Status monitor.
Check Audio Settings in the Game
Ensure all Audio settings are correct and enabled.
- Open the EVE Online client.
- Press Esc to open the settings menu.
- Navigate to the Audio tab.
- Ensure that the audio is enabled and the volume sliders are set appropriately.
- Try disabling and enabling the audio.
Verify System Audio Settings
System audio settings may have changed or audio is being routed to the incorrect device.
- Ensure the correct playback device is selected.
- Ensure that your system audio is not muted and the volume is up.
Windows
- Right-click on the sound icon in the taskbar.
- Select Open Sound settings from the menu.
- In the Sound settings window, scroll down to the Advanced sound options section and click on App volume and device preferences.
- While EVE is running, scroll down and locate EVE on the list.
- Click on the dropdown menu next to the app's name and select your preferred audio device.
- Drag the Output volume slider to adjust the volume.
- Make sure EVE is not Muted.
Mac
- Mac: Open the Apple menu > System Settings, then click Sound in the sidebar.
- Click the Output tab, then select the appropriate device.
- At the bottom of the window, check these sound settings:
- Drag the Output volume slider to adjust the volume.
- Make sure the Mute checkbox is not selected.
Verify Game Files
Corrupted game files can lead to various audio problems. Verify the integrity of your game files through the EVE Online launcher.
- Open the EVE Online launcher.
- Click on the Cogwheel icon in the top right corner.
- Select Tools / Cache on the left and click Verify Game Files.
- This will check for any corrupted files and repair them.
Run EVE Online as Administrator
Permission issues can often be the cause for audio issues.
- Right-click the EVE Online shortcut or executable file.
- Select Run as administrator.
Check for Conflicting Programs
Other applications running in the background can interfere with EVE Online’s performance.
- Temporarily disable or close background applications, especially those related to audio, like communication apps (Discord, Skype) or audio management software.
Check for hardware issues
Sometimes the issue may be caused by faulty hardware.
- Try using a different pair of headphones or speakers to see if the problem persists.
Update Audio Drivers
Outdated audio drivers can cause a range of audio issues, if you have the latest drivers try re-installing them.
- Go to your computer’s Device Manager.
- Locate the audio drivers under Sound, video, and game controllers.
- Right-click on the audio driver and select Update driver.
- Alternatively, visit the manufacturer’s website to download and install the latest drivers.
Check for OS updates
Ensure that your operating system is up to date, as updates can include important fixes.
- Windows: Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and then select Check for updates. If updates are available, install them.
- Mac: Open the Apple menu > System Settings, click General in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down), then click Software Update on the right.
Reinstall EVE Online
As a last resort, you can try uninstalling and then reinstalling EVE Online.
- Ensure EVE Online is closed before following the instructions below.
- Don't worry, your client settings will not be wiped by this operation.
- Windows: Select Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select the app you want to remove, and then select Uninstall.
- Mac: Open the Finder > Applications and locate eve-online.
- Drag eve-online to the trash and empty it.
- Download the latest version of EVE Online and reinstall.
