The Steam Overlay allows you to access many Steam features—such as chatting with friends, browsing the web, or capturing screenshots—while playing EVE Online, without needing to minimize or close the game.
1. What You Can Do with Steam Overlay
With the Steam Overlay active, you can:
Chat with your Steam friends while playing.
View or post Steam community guides and discussions.
Access the built-in web browser for EVE-related tools.
Take screenshots or record gameplay.
2. Enabling the Steam Overlay
If pressing Shift + Tab doesn’t open the overlay, you may need to enable it in your Steam settings.
Launch the Steam client.
Click Steam in the top-left corner and select Settings.
In the Settings window, select In-Game from the left-hand sidebar.
Toggle on Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game.
Then it is good to verify that the Overlay is enabled for EVE:
In your Steam Library, right-click EVE Online and select Properties
Under the General tab, make sure Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game is toggled on
3. Using the Overlay In-Game
Once enabled, launch EVE Online through Steam. Press Shift + Tab to open the overlay while the game is running.
When the Steam Overlay opens, you’ll see several panels and quick-access tools. These may vary slightly depending on your Steam client version or updates.
