Changing Email or Password for a Steam-Linked Account

If you play EVE Online via Steam, your account credentials are managed through Steam by default.

However, you can still update the email address associated with your Steam-linked EVE account, and you can create a separate EVE username and password to access the game outside of Steam — such as through the standalone launcher or EVE Online Account Management page.

Understanding Steam-Linked Accounts

Steam-linked EVE accounts authenticate through Steam, but certain settings (like your in-game account email) are managed through CCP’s Account Management site.

Changing Your EVE Account Email Address

You can change the email address associated with your EVE account through the Account Management page.

  1. Visit the EVE Online Account Management page.

  2. Click LOGIN WITH STEAM and sign in using your Steam credentials.

  3. In the top-right corner, click your account name (Steam::[numbers]) and select Account Management.

  4. Click Edit Account Information.

  5. Enter your new email address and click Save Changes.

You’ll see the following instructions on-screen:

“You must have access to both your current email and the one you are attempting to change to in order to complete the email change process.
Once you have entered the new address, a confirmation email will be sent to the address you currently have registered. Clicking ‘Accept Request’ will send a second email to the new address you have chosen. Click ‘Verify’ on the second email and complete the email change process.”

Note: It may take up to 30 minutes for confirmation emails to arrive. Be sure to check your spam and promotions folders on both accounts.

Changing Your Steam Password

Since Steam-linked accounts use Steam for authentication, password changes must be made through the Steam client.

  1. Open the Steam client.

  2. Click Steam → Settings → Security.

  3. Select Change Password.

  4. Follow Steam Guard verification steps and set your new password.

Creating an EVE Username and Password (Optional)

You can create separate EVE credentials to log in directly through the EVE launcher or website, without using Steam.

  1. Go to the EVE Account Management page.

  2. Click LOGIN WITH STEAM and sign in.

  3. In the top-right, click your account name (Steam::[numbers]) → Account Management.

  4. Click Change Password.

You’ll see a yellow notice box with this message:

"As a Steam user you can't change your password here, you must go through Steam for that. Alternatively, you can use this page to create a username and password."

"As you are signing in through Steam, we'd like to offer you the option of creating a username and password for logging in directly to your EVE account. This will allow you to log in without going via Steam from now on — but you will still be able to use your Steam credentials if you prefer."

Note: If you submit the form to create a username and password, you will be asked to sign in again using these new credentials.

Resetting Your EVE Password (if created)

If you’ve already set up EVE login credentials and want to reset them:

  1. Go to the EVE Account Recovery page.

  2. Enter your EVE username or associated email.

  3. Follow the on-screen steps to reset your password.
