Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your EVE Online account by requiring both your Steam login credentials and a verification code generated by your Steam Guard.
If you play EVE Online through Steam, your account’s security is managed by Steam Guard, which acts as your two-factor authentication system.
How to Enable Steam Guard (Two-Factor Authentication)
Step 1 – Open Steam Settings
Launch the Steam Client.
Click on Steam in the top-left corner.
Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
Step 2 – Access the Security Settings
In the Settings window, select Security.
Click Manage Steam Guard.
Step 3 – Choose an Authentication Method
Steam Guard offers two verification options:
Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator - Generates time-based codes directly on your phone through the Steam Mobile App. This is the most secure option.
Email Verification - Steam sends a code to your registered email address whenever you log in from a new device.
Step 4 – Set Up Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator (Recommended)
Download and install the Steam Mobile App (available for iOS and Android).
Sign in with your Steam credentials.
Tap on the menu icon (☰) → Steam Guard.
Follow the prompts to enable Mobile Authenticator.
Using Steam Guard with EVE Online
Once Steam Guard is active:
Your EVE Online login through Steam will automatically use Steam Guard verification.
You’ll be asked to enter a Steam Guard code when signing in from a new device or location.
There is no separate EVE-specific 2FA setup required.
Troubleshooting and Recovery
If you lose access to your Steam Guard authenticator:
Go to Steam Support.
Select Sign in and follow the prompts under I can’t sign in.
Steam Support can help recover your account or remove lost authenticators.
